This transfer bridge can handle two barges.
The barges move rail traffic from Hudson Point across the bay to the city of Hawthorne.
Today a repair vessel is attending to the bridges.

A switching locomotive is inside the  engine house to be serviced.

Rows of barrels and containers hold grease and oil.

A man is in a service pit used to work on the underside of locomtives.

The REA (Railroad Express Agency) substation is on the mainline.
Some trains make a brief stop here to load and unload freight.

The main REA Depot would have its own siding where carloads would be loaded and unloaded.

Today's Photo is from 2017 taken on the Western Division of the Hudson Point & Hawthorne.
The fishing must be really good to put up with these locomotives blowing by!

When the Hudson Point & Hawthorne was first conceived the setting was September, 1956.
NOTHING on the model was newer than that date.
The locomotives were also correctly named for the railroad.
The "rule" to keep everything pre-1957  has been relaxed.
So many  modern models are too nice to ignore.

This Susquehanna C-630 locomotive (circa 1966-Present) is too modern for the HP&H  by ten years but it runs through on a regular basis.

The real life susquehanna still operates today.  Their track still runs through Hawthorne New Jersey alongside Grand Avenue.  It passes by grandma's house, virtually in her front yard.

A brief history: There have been three models of the Hudson Point & Hawthorne RR:

Eastern Division: 1997-2007

Western Division: 2017-2018

Central Division: 2018-2024 (+?)

The previous posts were from Central Division. It is the current and only model that still exists.

Today's photo is from 1997. Taryn's dress shop was named for my granddaughter.

The dress shop is one of the many structures sold at a train show when the layout was disassembled in 2007.

To the many of you who came over from Karen's Blog: Thank you for your kind comments. I'm glad you found the pictures and videos enjoyable.

Ann, Thank you for your interest and comments. The layout in the previous three posts was built in the last five years. However a few buildings and scenes are from two previous layouts going back to 1997. It is indeed a work in progress. A model railroad is never finished ;-)
I have considered taking it down or reducing its size but at present it is still growing.

Overview of the "Carbon Flats" industrial area along the Hudson Point & Hawthorne Railroad.

The model is in HO scale, (1:87) meaning one actual 12 inch foot  is eighty-seven feet on the model.
